No Ordinary Roadtrip
Three recent college graduates from California decided to use their graduation money to take a cross-country roadtrip. But this was no ordinary summer vacation.
They’re taking their good fortune to several cities, and sharing it with people in need. Most recently, they made an impromptu stop at St. Louis Children’s Hospital with bags of gifts for the children.
“When we got to St. Louis, we were still wondering what to do,” explains Alex Reames. “We didn’t choose St. Louis Children’s Hospital until we were just outside the building. It seemed like such an inviting place.”
Reames, Rebecca Marshburn and Kevin Ladd, all 22, have already stopped in Boston and Chicago, where they donated money toward YMCA scholarships for two children and rent payments for a family in need.
Their gifts to St. Louis Children’s Hospital included stuffed animals, action figures, puzzles and trucks – as outlined on the hospital’s online wish list.
“We already have so much,” says Reames, who grew up with Marshburn and Ladd in an affluent Orange County suburb
“We’ve been so privileged,” says Marshburn. “And we were fortunate enough to be ‘accidentally’ born with that. Many of our relatives were very generous with graduation gifts so it’s nice to share with others who haven’t been so lucky.”
One of the group’s next stops: Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where they plan to use a food challenge to raise more money for their cross-country mission. A local pizzeria offers a cash reward to anybody who can eat an entire 28” pizza!
