During the confirmation call the day before surgery, the nurse will discuss your child’s instructions for surgery, including the time your child must stop eating or drinking.
It is very important to your child’s safety that you follow these instructions closely.
- Please do not give your child any products containing aspirin or ibuprofen during the two weeks prior to surgery unless you’ve consulted your child’s surgeon. These products have been associated with increased bleeding during and after surgery.
- Children should be bathed, have their hair washed and have their teeth brushed the night before surgery. No contact lenses or make-up may be worn. Fingernail polish must be removed. All jewelry should be removed, including piercings. Females over 10 years of age will need to give a urine sample upon arrival.
- Since your child will not be able to eat or drink for several hours prior to surgery, we ask that you please do not eat or drink in front of your child on the day of the procedure.
