Surgical Services provides peri-operative services for the neonate to post-adolescent patient population. The scope of service includes family centered physical and psychosocial care. The services provided begin prior to admission to the surgical unit with assessments for the In-patient and telephone interviews for the Same Day Surgery patient. Education, appropriate interventions and referrals are provided to every patient and family throughout peri-operative process. Every patient also receives post-operative follow-up contact.
The Surgical Services unit consists of 36 Same Day Surgery beds, 4 of which will be swing beds for PACU and 9 Post Anesthesia Care beds.
Patient Population
Surgical Services provides care to patients ranging from newborn through age 21. On occasion, care and surgical services are provided to a living-related organ donor over the age of 21. Care on this unit is related to one or more of the following specialties:

Continuing Education
All staff participate in mandatory in-service programs. Continuing education credits are awarded based on topics and programs. Participating Surgical Services team members present the Annual Pediatric Peri-Operative Conference each October.
