PROGRAM OVERVIEW: This program is designed to highlight innovative approaches to patient care in the peri-operative and trauma settings. It will explore topics in gang-related violence, treatment modalities, and communicating difficult news to the family, as well as strategies to reduce the incidence and severity of pediatric injuries.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
· Discuss the unique challenges that exist when caring for the patient involved in gang activity.
· Discuss the treatment priorities in managing penetrating trauma in the ED and Peri-operative settings.
· Identify current approaches to therapeutic management of pediatric patients in peri-operative and trauma settings.

INTENDED AUDIENCE: Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, EMS providers, Health Care Professionals dealing with children in peri-operative and trauma settings. The credits should be applicable for pediatric-specific trauma education hours required by state trauma regulations.
