2010 Call for Abstracts

The deadline to sumbit abstracts for the Fourth Annual Perspectives in Pediatric Nursing Conference has passed.

St. Louis Children’s Hospital is pleased to announce the Perspectives in Pediatric Nursing Conference to be held April 15 and 16, 2010, in St. Louis, Missouri. The event will focus on the challenges and rewards of providing nursing care to the pediatric patient and family.

Abstracts should focus on:

  • Family-centered patient care
  • New treatment modalities in care of the pediatric patient
  • Pediatric-based research or evidence-based practice projects
  • Creative or innovative modalities in patient care
  • Innovations in emergency/trauma nursing
  • Quality and safety in pediatric care

Concurrent sessions
Presentations should describe nursing experiences, opportunities, and/or research related to the conference themes. Research-related abstracts for concurrent sessions should focus on applicability to pediatric nursing practice.

Poster session
Abstracts for poster presentations are encouraged. Poster presentations will provide opportunities to share nursing innovations or initiatives related to conference themes.

Registration
All concurrent session and poster presenters must register for the conference. Concurrent session presenters are eligible for a reduced registration fee and are expected to assume costs related to travel, accommodations and registration. Submission of an abstract signifies intent of the author to present.

Submission deadline
Completed rigistration packets must be postmarked by June 26, 2009 or online submissions must be completed by June 26, 2009.  The online submission deadline has been extended to July 6, 2009.

Selection and notification
Abstracts will be evaluated by a review committee. Criteria for abstract selection will include importance of topic relative to focus areas, congruence with conference theme and presenter qualifications.

Notification of accepted abstracts and commitment for presentation at the conference will be made by Sept. 1, 2009.

Abstract applicants
Professional nurses and other healthcare providers in a variety of roles and settings are invited to submit an abstract. These roles include inpatient, outpatient, advanced practice, home healthcare, long-term care, education, and the community.

Submission guidelines*
1. Abstracts may be submitted for concurrent and/or poster presentation.

2. Abstracts should be 300 words or fewer and typed single-spaced using a 10-12 point font.

3. Abstract packets for each presentation must be complete and include the following:

  • Applicant information form for each presenter (name and credentials exactly as they should appear in published materials or APA format)
  • Abstract
  • Current curriculum vitae for each presenter

4. If accepted, the abstract will be published in the syllabus as submitted.

5. If abstract is accepted, concurrent speaker discounts apply only to the person submitting the application. One individual per abstract application will receive a speaker discounted conference rate.

6. Poster presenters attending the conference will be expected to pay the full conference rate.

* Abstracts that do not meet the submission guidelines will not be considered.

The applicant is responsible for the abstract content and will be considered the main contact. Submission signifies the intent of the applicant to present the paper or poster at the April 15 and 16, 2010, Perspectives in Pediatric Nursing conference.
