Classes

We offer classes at various locations that are open to the community. We also do the following classes for private groups of 10 or more people at your location. There may be a fee associated with some of the classes. The classes for kids meet a variety of Scout badge requirements.  Email programs@bjc.org for more information or to schedule a private class.

Classes For Families:
CPR for Family and Friends: A three-hour program for parents, grandparents, teenagers who babysit (ages 10-15 if accompanied by an adult) and child-care providers. Instruction and hands-on practice in infant, child and adult CPR and first aid for choking. Our instructors are trained by the American Heart Association.

Staying Home Alone: This two-hour class will help parents and children determine the child's readiness--physically, mentally, socially and emotionally--to stay home by themselves and help prepare them for this experience.  Workbooks--one for parents and one for children--are provided.

Infant/Toddler Massage: Parents and expectant parents can attend this class to learn hands-on massage techniques that promote relaxation and help develop a stronger bond with their infant or toddler (newborns through age 3).  All children and parents - including colicky babies, fussy toddlers and dads with breastfed babies-can benefit from this wonderful relaxing and bonding experience.  This class is taught by St. Louis Children's Hospital Certified Infant Massage Instructors.  Each family will receive the illustrated guidebook titled Baby's First Touch: Step-by-Step Instructions for Infant Massage, as well as a bottle of massage oil.

Classes For Kids:
Babysitting 101: This four-hour class is a great introduction to the basics of babysitting. Topics include the business of babysitting, child development, safety/first aid, fun and games. Includes a 28-page workbook.

Basic Aid Training Certification: A four-hour first-aid program for kids ages 9-12. Topics include emergency action steps, rescue breathing, choking, wounds, fire safety and poison safety. Certification by the American Red Cross is given at the completion of the class.
