Discipline is a constant process of teaching appropriate behavior based on limits, praise and a positive relationship between the child and parent, as well as teaching appropriate ways to deal with one’s feelings. When used effectively, discipline fosters a positive sense of one’s self, encourages appropriate behavior and creates trust between the child and parent.
