Kid Care: A Parent’s Best Friend

How should you treat a fever? Should you call the doctor about a bug bite? Does your child have croup?

For the first time, answers and advice are no further than your pocket or purse. St. Louis Children’s Hospital now has its own iPhone™ app for pediatric symptoms—Kid Care.

Kid Care guidelines help parents make decisions about what level of medical care is needed and how to treat their child at home when it’s safe to do so. You can select from 88 pediatric topics and search from an alphabetical list or by body area.

“Health problems can arise anytime—evenings, weekends, when you’re at work or while traveling,” says Suzi Wells, BSN, RN, manager of the St. Louis Children’s Hospital Answer Line and content consultant for the Kid Care app. “The application helps you make smart decisions about what level of care is needed and how to provide speedy relief for minor illnesses or injuries you can manage on your own.”

Kid Care is derived from the clinical protocols used by St. Louis Children’s Hospital, as well as pediatricians and nurses in 10,000 practices and 400 nurse advice call centers in the United States and Canada. The protocols have been tested for 15 years on more than 150 million symptom calls.
