The St. Louis Children's Hospital Diagnostic Center is an innovative outpatient resource developed to assist community pediatricians, family practitioners and the hospital's full-time staff in the prompt assessment of patients with complex diagnoses requiring evaluation by several subspecialists.
The center serves patients who require diagnostic work not available in a community setting or who pose a diagnostic dilemma.
- By coordinating access to the extensive resources of St. Louis Children's Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine, the Diagnostic Center strengthens the ability of the pediatrician or family practitioner to deliver continuing care to children and adolescents with complex problems.
- By providing advanced diagnostic services in an ambulatory setting, the center reduces stress and anxiety experienced by the patient and family undergoing evaluation.
- A centralized process for evaluations reduces the potential for duplication -- assuring the most economical care possible -- and provides a single, comprehensive report for physicians.
