The Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at St. Louis Children's Hospital offers a full range of clinical services for pediatric patients with endocrine and growth disorders, diabetes, and bone and mineral metabolic disorders.

Conditions treated

  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Growth problems
  • Thyroid problems
  • Delayed or precocious puberty
  • Pituitary problems
  • Adrenal problems
  • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
  • Ambiguous genitalia

Most new patients can be diagnosed and treated on an outpatient basis. For children newly diagnosed with diabetes (approximately 80 to 100 each year), a brief hospital stay is usually recommended to initiate therapy and to provide proper education for the patients and parents.

The Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism operates clinical services, basic and clinical research activities, and teaching services encompassing the entire scope of pediatric endocrinology and metabolic diseases.
