The Division of Medical Genetics is uniquely qualified to treat a wide variety of genetic diseases and has immediate access to three excellent onsite genetics laboratories.

The division supplements a thorough physical examination, medical history and family history with a variety of measurement techniques and screening studies to determine a diagnosis and treatment plan.

  • Hereditary conditions
  • Inborn errors of metabolism
  • Cytogenetic disorders
  • Abnormalities of newborn screening tests
  • Familial cancer syndromes
  • Genetic disorders that cause neurologic problems
  • Mental retardation

Genetic and nutritional counseling

The division has three genetic counselors on staff to help families deal with the emotional ramifications, and two registered dietitians specially trained in the dietary management of metabolic diseases.
