Gynecology

  • Diane F. Merritt, MD, Director
    A nationally recognized expert in pediatric and adolescent gynecology, Dr. Diane Merritt pioneered the Program in Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, which is now an established major referral center in the Midwest. Involved in women's health for the last two decades and a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Washington University School of Medicine, Dr. Merritt has been director of the program since 1984. Her career has included roles as clinician, teacher, researcher, lecturer and author. Dr. Merritt is known for her clinical work in the diagnosis and treatment of genital injuries, menstrual disorders, and the diagnosis and repair of congenital anomalies of the reproductive tract. She is the recipient of many teaching and clinical awards; and she lectures and publishes on adolescent sexuality, teen pregnancy prevention, menstrual disorders, repair of injuries and congenital anomalies of the genital tract, women's health, contraception, and hormone replacement therapy. She is the principal investigator in clinical research protocols involving contraception and alternatives to estrogen replacement therapy.

    Dr. Merritt is a founding member of the North American Society of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology. Dr. Merritt is also a member of the Society of Adolescent Medicine, the American Society of Reproductive Medicine and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

    Dr. Merritt is listed in The Best Doctors in America: Midwest Region, published by Woodward/White Inc., which is based on an extensive nationwide poll of thousands of medical specialists. "Top Docs," based on the book, was St. Louis magazine's cover feature for its May/June 1996 edition.
