What is Neurofibromatosis?

Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a set of complex genetic conditions that can affect nearly every organ system in the body. NF causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body and in the brain. Other problems can include learning issues and bone deformities.

The Neurofibromatosis Team
The Neurofibromatosis Comprehensive Care Team, led by Dr. David Gutmann, provides detailed patient assessments and works with referring physicians, allied health professionals and agencies to deliver state-of-the-art medical services both locally and nationally.

The NF Clinical Program offers comprehensive clinical and laboratory services for children.

  • Diagnostic Evaluation
  • Routine Follow-up Examinations
  • Multidisciplinary Coordinated Care

Coordinated Care in the NF Clinical Program includes:

  • Careful review of clinical and family history
  • Detailed physical and neurological examinations
  • Ophthalmology examination
  • Genetic counseling
  • Imaging studies (when indicated)
  • Appropriate consultations with our comprehensive team of medical and surgical specialists
  • Genetic testing (when indicated)
