- We continue to test and apply novel approaches and organ transplantation to the treatment of cystic fibrosis.
- The clinical research program has expanded as our involvement in the Therapeutics Development Network (TDN) increases, complementing our basic research programs.
- Center investigators continue to collaborate with established investigators in clinical and basic science departments, most notably with physicians and scientists from Molecular Microbiology, Cell Biology and Physiology, and the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, focusing on projects examining pulmonary drug delivery, airway infection, novel antibiotic therapy, thoracic imaging techniques, lung inflammation, nutrition, and diabetes.
- We are one of six primary sites of the National Institutes of Health (NIH)-supported Genetic Disorders of Mucociliary Clearance Consortium, a clinical research network to study rare diseases of teh airways, focusing on unusual or variant forms of cystic fibrosis and primary cilliary dyskinesia (PCD).
- In collaboration with our gastroenterology colleagues, we are beginning participation in the NIH- and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation-supported Cystic Fibrosis Liver Disease Research Consortium, a multicenter, longitudinal, observational study utilizing diagnostic, clinical, and outcome data to understand the pathogenesis and to develop biomarkers useful in the prediction of progression of cystic fibrosis-related liver disease.
