Camp Crescent

Camp Crescent offers a place where children who have sickle cell disease can meet other campers, join in many fun activities, and feel more confident about living with sickle cell disease.

Camp Crescent combines the traditional swimming, crafts, and campfire with a medical staff prepared to meet the special needs of campers who are being treated for sickle cell disease. Campers learn more about their disease in a relaxed open environment. There are no costs to campers attending

Medical professionals are present 24 hours a day. Staff members make sure that campers take any necessary medication. To ensure the best medical care at camp, camp nurses will work with campers’ physicians to coordinate a care plan.

Activities: Arts and crafts, singing, basketball, meditation, storytelling, campfires, games, archery, swimming, an overnight campout, nature hikes through the forest, and a host of other activities!

Where: Babler State Park in Wildwood, MO. Only 45 minutes from downtown St. Louis, and less than 2 hours from Columbia, MO.

When: Second week in July.

Children with sickle cell enjoy traditional summertime activities at Camp Crescent.

Accommodations:
Camp Crescent features rustic cabins for lodging, a swimming pool, and various activity centers. Meals are served in a communal dining hall. More than 300 acres of woods create a beautiful setting, which includes playing fields and hiking trails. There is also a recreational building for basketball, games, ping pong, and other camp activities! Transportation to and from Camp Crescent is provided.

Cost: Camp Crescent is offered free of charge, thanks to our generous supporters.

Who Can Come:
Campers: 8-13 years of age who have sickle cell disease.

Counselor in Training (CIT): 14-17 years of age, have sickle cell disease, and want the opportunity to make the transition to becoming a counselor.

Counselors: at least 18 years of age and may have sickle cell disease. These counselors attend training sessions in the areas of leadership, behavior management, and sickle cell education prior to camp.
