Research

Although we are primarily a clinical program, we are committed to evidence based practice and involvement in research projects with direct clinical relevance. Our entire faculty is involved in clinical research projects, largely in collaboration with medical colleagues at the hospital. It is expected that the resident will participate in a research project during the course of the year. The resident will meet with supervisors at the beginning of the year to discuss potential research projects. While the resident is welcome to work on a previous dataset of their own or submit a manuscript of their dissertation for publication, we encourage collaboration with a faculty member on an ongoing project. In the past residents have worked on writing their dissertation or have presented at a pediatric psychology conference. The resident will attend our research group meeting twice per month for support and feedback on their project. Current faculty research projects include, but are not limited to:

  • adherence behaviors in pediatric transplant
  • psychosocial functioning in chronic kidney disease
  • psychosocial factors in unilateral hearing loss
  • factors affecting the transition from active treatment to survivorship in pediatric cancer
  • evaluation of our pediatric consultation/liaison service
