ST. LOUIS, December 23 -- Tips from Christine Pavlak, director of pharmacy services:
-
Always read the label before each dose (no matter how many times you have given this medicine)
-
Never measure doses or give medications in the dark
-
Use the appropriate measuring device
-
If a liquid medication comes with a dose cup, never assume your child’s dose is the full dispensing cup.
-
Use the appropriate measuring device: Use droppers only if provided with the medication. Never use household silverware to measure.
-
Use your child’s weight to determine the dose, not their age.
-
Only give prescription medications to the child they were prescribed for, do not share with siblings.
-
Do not save remaining medications. Many products lose potency over time.
