World Series Trophy Visits Hospital
12/14/2006

It was fanfare and hardware along the halls of St. Louis Children’s Hospital Thursday, December 14. The St. Louis Cardinals brought the 2006 World Series Championship trophy for an up-close viewing by patients, their families and hospital staff.

The trophy - along with Cardinal mascot Fredbird – attended a holiday party in the Child Life playroom. And when forced to choose between photos with Santa and photos with the 30-pound trophy, the man in red took a back seat to the Redbird relic.

Following the playroom celebration, the team took the trophy to each patient’s room on every patient floor. So even the kids too sick to attend the party got a chance to shake hands with Fredbird and take a picture with the part-sterling silver, part-14-carat gold statue.

The patients weren’t the only ones with Redbird fever. Nearly 500 nurses, administrators, physicians and other hospital staff formed a line that spanned the entire 2nd floor lobby of the hospital for a chance to see the trophy – and sneak a picture – for themselves.
