Inpatient Surgical Unit (10)
10th Floor Inpatient Surgery Unit - 30 bed unit
Our mission is to provide exemplary, safe, compassionate and family oriented care to all children through the collaborative interactions of a multi-disciplinarian team. The focus of patient care is with an emphasis on achieving wellness, maintaining or improving function, and preventing complications. Our patients originate from the Operating Room, Emergency Unit and Trauma Services, doctor's offices, and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Many of our patients are from the following surgical services: general surgery, orthopedic surgery, plastic surgery, urologic surgery, ophthalmology surgery, and otolaryngology surgery. Activities related to burn care are coordinated and monitored by staff and resources from the Pediatric Ambulatory Wounds Services, or PAWS unit, and the 10th Floor.
Staff of the PAWS unit is specially trained in burn and wound care. The PAWS unit provide dressing changes, wound debridement, whirlpool therapy, and physical/occupational therapy. If needed, sedation for the wound care and therapies is provided by a sedation-trained pediatrician (hospitalist). With PAWS< children who do not necessarily need to be hospitalized can have their wound issues addressed daily or several times a week in an outpatient setting. The PAWS team work to evaluate each child's needs including nutrition, child life services, psychological services, and pain management and then coordinate a specialized treatment plan.
