Faculty Update: Beeks Honored by National Medical Association
In March, Earl C. Beeks, Jr., MD, was honored by the National Medical Association (NMA) with its President’s Award at the organization’s National Colloquium on African American Health 12th Annual Awards Dinner. The award recognized Dr. Beeks for the contributions he has made in medicine and toward the work of the NMA.
“I was deeply honored to receive the President’s Award and accepted it on behalf of the members of the Mound City Medical Forum and in honor of St. Louis’ rich heritage of physicians and nurses associated with Homer G. Phillips Hospital,” said Dr. Beeks.
Dr. Beeks opened his private practice in University City in 1986. In 2010 he was recognized by St. Louis Children’s Hospital for his 25 years of service as a member of its medical staff. He also serves as an associate professor of clinical pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine.
Dr. Beeks is president of the Mound City Medical Forum and a past recipient of the St. Louis American Foundation Salute to Excellence in Healthcare Award. He received his medical degree from the University of Missouri School of Medicine, Columbia, and completed his pediatric internship and residency at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C.
The NMA is the largest and oldest national organization representing African-American physicians and their patients in the United States. It is committed to improving the quality of health among minorities and disadvantaged people through its membership, professional development, community health education, advocacy, research and partnerships with federal and private agencies.
