Medical Update: Important Dosage Change for Acetaminophen

Liquid acetaminophen (Tylenol, etc.) products have transitioned to a single concentration of 160mg/5mL for all pediatric single-ingredient liquid acetaminophen products. Having just one concentration of the drug is safer and less confusing for consumers.

Acetaminophen products with this new concentration (160mg/5ml) are beginning to appear in stores now, however both the old and new concentrations of infants’ acetaminophen products may be available on store shelves and in homes for a period of time.

Families should be reminded to check packaging carefully to find the concentration, then select the dosage according to the correct concentration and child’s weight. For safety reasons, it is recommended to use the measuring tool packaged with the acetaminophen product.
