Kohl's Safety Street
Program Background
Kohl's Safety Street is an injury prevention program for Kindergarten through Fifth grade students. A classroom curriculum as well as an interactive, life-size cityscape and picture panels help children learn important safety lessons. The set can be customized to represent the community in which the school is located.
The program curriculum incorporates both Missouri and Illinois Department of Education Standards.

Kohl's Safety Street is a St. Louis Children's Hospital community outreach program funded by a grant from Kohl's department stores.

Kindergarten - 2 Grade Curriculum
With the assistance of parent/community volunteers, kids will practice:
- pedestrian safety
- stray animal safety
- stranger safety
- train safety
- helmet and bicycle safety
3 - 5 Grade Curriculum*
*Appropriate for 6th Grade if located at an elementary school.
With the assistance of parent/community volunteers, kids will practice:
- water safety
- home safety
- playground and sports safety
- car safety and trunk entrapment
- pedestrian safety refresher
Program Evaluation
Pre and post assessments will be conducted by St. Louis Children’s Hospital staff. A final evaluation report including knowledge gained by students will be shared with the school.
