At St. Louis Children's Hospital, Dr. Shalini Shenoy, director of the bone marrow transplant program, has developed a reduced-intensity regimen that has made it possible to use bone marrow transplant to more successfully treat childhood illness. Formerly considered a treatment just for cancer, Shenoy has successfully cured non-malignant disorders like hemaglobinopathies, immune deficiencies, bone marrow failure and metabolic disorders with bone marrow transplants.
