Dr. Shalini Shenoy, director of the bone marrow transplant program at St. Louis Children's Hospital, is leading successful research into curing sickle cell anemia with bone marrow transplantation. Reduced intensity pre-transplant conditioning has made it possible to transplant patients from unmatched bone marrow donors, widening the net of potential donors and giving more young patients a chance to receive a bone marrow transplant, and a cure for their sickle cell.
