Dr. Shalini Shenoy, director of the bone marrow transplant program at St. Louis Children's Hospital, explains when to consider a bone marrow transplant to cure a non-malignant disorder. Shenoy has pioneered a reduced intensity conditioning model that has made transplantation less toxic to the patient, but still stresses the importance of weighing the risks and benefits of transplant to each individual patient.
