2021 Camp Crescent Cancelled
It has been decided by the St. Louis Children’s Hospital Senior Staff to cancel 2021 Camp Crescent, which was scheduled for June 28 - July 1, 2021, due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. We are heartbroken and saddened that we will not be able to hold camp this summer, but understand the decision was made for the health and safety of our campers, volunteers and staff.
We look forward to welcoming campers again in 2022.
Camp Crescent offers a place where children who have sickle cell disease can meet other campers, join in many fun activities, and feel more confident about living with sickle cell disease.
Camp Crescent Mission is to provide each camper a comfortable environment to enjoy regular camp activities with other campers who share the same chronic illness, by doing so, it will enhance:
- Self-esteem
- Self-worth
- Develop social skills
Attending Camp Crescent each camper will discover how unique they are despite having Sickle Cell Disease.
Camp Crescent combines the traditional swimming, crafts and campfire with counselors and medical staff prepared to meet the special needs of campers who are being treated for sickle cell disease.
Medical professionals are present 24 hours a day.

Activities: Arts and crafts, singing, dancing, campfires, games, archery, swimming, field trip, nature hikes through the forest and a host of other special activities.
Where: YMCA Of The Ozarks - Trout Lodge, Potosi, MO. Only 1 hour and 38 minutes from downtown St. Louis, and less than 2 ½ hours from Columbia, MO.
When: 2022 (Official dates to be determined.)
Accommodations: Camp Crescent features hotel–style or cabin lodging. The campus is nestled into 5,200 acres of picturesque, forest covered hills and a 360–acre private lake. Meals are buffet-style meals and Trout Lodge offers many activities including paintball, nature hikes, horseback riding, zip lining, water and boating activities, and so much more.
Cost: Camp Crescent is offered free of charge thanks to the St. Louis Children's Hospital Foundation and our generous supporters.
Who Can Come:
Campers: 8-12 years of age who have sickle cell disease. If interested in attending camp, please email May Thomas at [email protected].
Counselor Volunteers: at least 18 years of age who has background training in providing care to special needs children and/or in the medical field pursuing career in caring for pediatric patients. Counselors attend training sessions in the area of leadership, behavior management, and sickle cell education prior to camp.
General Volunteers: Camp Crescent welcomes all volunteers ages 18 and older along with medical staff who would like to participate in caring for campers along with having a fun time at Camp Crescent.
