Shadowing Experiences
Child Life 101 Program
Here is what you can expect:
- 4 Hour Child Life 101 Informational Session
- Tour of St. Louis Children's Hospital
- Topics Covered:
- A day in the life of a Child Life Specialist
- Child Life Interventions
- Path to becoming a Child Life Specialist
Requirements:
- Basic understanding of the profession you are shadowing
- Completion of the Child Life 101 Request
- 18 years of age or high school graduate
- Comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). If selected to shadow, you will be required to sign a HIPAA confidentiality form.
- If selected to attend Child Life 101, please be prepared with questions for the staff member(s).
- Please come dressed in professional attire as well as in comfortable, close-toed shoes.
Dates:
- Wednesday January 10th, 2018 from 8:30-11:30 AM
- Thursday March 29th, 2018 from 3:00-6:00 PM
- Wednesday June 6th, 2018 from 8:30-11:30 AM
- Tuesday August 7th, 2018 from 8:30-11:30 AM
Important Notes:
Child Life 101 does not meet CLC course verification requirements and/or volunteer credit and contact hours, CEU's, or PDU's.
Limited space available for each session. We will do our best to keep the dates as scheduled above, however we do reserve the right to cancel sessions and will reschedule accordingly.
Once your request has been received and processed, further information will be emailed regarding details and logistics of Child Life 101 sessions.

School Program
Here is what you can expect:
- Tour of St. Louis Children's Hospital
- 30 minute overview of school program
- 1 hour of shadowing a School Teacher with patient consults or school room sessions
Requirements:
- Basic understanding of the profession you are shadowing
- Completion of the School Shadowing Application
- Complete a screening via telephone, if application is selected
- Comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). If selected to shadow, you will be required to sign a HIPAA confidentiality form.
- If selected to shadow please be prepared with questions for the staff member(s) you are shadowing. Also, please come dressed in professional attire as well as comfortable, close toed shoes.
Art Therapy Program
Here is what you can expect:
- Lunch and/or discussion with the Art Therapist (due to the confidential nature of therapy sessions, traditional shadowing opportunities are prohibited)
Requirements:
- Basic understanding of the field of Art Therapy
- Completion of the Art Therapy Shadowing Request
- Complete a screening via telephone, if shadowing request is selected
- Comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- If selected for an informational meeting, please be prepared with questions for staff member(s). Also, please come dressed in professional attire as well as comfortable, close toed shoes.
Music Therapy Program
Here is what you can expect:
- Tour of St. Louis Children's Hospital
- Minimum of 3 hours spent shadowing the Music Therapist engaging in various clinical music therapy interventions
Requirements:
- Basic understanding of the profession you are shadowing
- Completion of the Music Therapy Shadowing Request
- Complete a screening via telephone, if application is selected
- Comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). If selected to shadow, you will be required to sign a HIPAA confidentiality form.
- If selected to shadow please be prepared with questions for the staff member(s) you are shadowing. Also, please come dressed in professional attire as well as comfortable, close toed shoes.
