Schwannomatosis is a uncommon type of neurofibromatosis in which affected individuals develop multiple nerve sheath tumors. These tumors, called schwannomas, involve Schwann cells that wrap around nerves, and can affect the cranial, spinal, and peripheral nerves. While people with schwannomatosis do not develop other NF-related tumors or problems, they may experience severe pain.
