St. Louis Children’s Hospital at Missouri Baptist Medical Center has opened an expanded pediatric emergency unit in a new building on the medical center campus.
Child-Focused, Family-Centered
The pediatric emergency unit is staffed 24-7 by pediatric nurses and Washington University pediatric physicians 
dedicated to the comfort, security and satisfaction of children and their families. Features of the new unit include:
- 9 treatment rooms
- 6 inpatient beds that allow physicians to admit children overnight for observation or treatment
- A spacious play area
- Waiting area
- Computers available for family use
- A child-friendly nautical theme throughout the unit, complete with fish tanks, a lighthouse and sailboat accents
An "Ouchless" Emergency Unit
Developed by Children’s Hospital emergency medicine physicians, the “ouchless” emergency unit employs a variety 
of techniques—including the use of nitrous oxide—to ensure patients experience as little discomfort as possible.
Conditions Treated
The pediatric emergency unit is designed to care for children with a variety of injuries and illnesses. Each patient receives ongoing assessment and diagnostic treatment. Throughout the course of patient care, radiology and laboratory services are also available, if required. In cases where more urgent care is needed, the staff will quickly arrange for patient transport to St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
Pediatric Acute Wound Service (PAWS) - West
The staff of the Pediatric Acute Wound Service (PAWS) are specially trained in burn and wound care, and treat children in the hospital and as outpatients. With PAWS, children who do not necessarily need to be hospitalized can have their wound issues addressed daily or several times a week in an outpatient setting. Ease of Access, Free Parking 
It’s very easy for families to access Children’s Hospital at Missouri Baptist Medical Center. The unit is located on the first floor of the new East Pavilion building on the eastern end of the Medical Center. Parking is FREE and the lot is directly next to the East Pavilion. There is a separate entrance for the pediatric unit.
