All-Inclusive Playground Features

One in 10 children have some sort of disability including physical, cognitive, learning, visual, and hearing. The design has various spaces that are fun for all children, and also can help special-needs children advance in areas that require additional attention and provide therapy through play.

Features of the playground include:

  • a variety of structures including ramps, steps and mock rock climbers
  • a multi-sensory area with sound and physical tactile stimulation equipment to address the curiosity of all kids, especially those with cognitive and learning disabilities
  • an inclusive swing area with a variety of seating options
  • a water play area with spray ground
  • shade structures
  • a walking path
  • a rubberized ground covering accessible to wheelchairs, walkers and other assistive devices

Playgrounds that incorporate a theme support all children’s ability to imagine. Within that imagination, physical differences are not as profound and barriers can be broken down to encourage inclusive play.
