-For ALL prn orders, there MUST be an indication.

-When ordering vaccines, there must be a route and the dose should be indicated in mL amounts.

-Many caregivers do not consider herbal supplements a medication when asked by healthcare professionals. Consider asking if a patient takes any supplements.

-Herbal supplements can have potentially serious interactions with some medications.

-The dose for palivizumab (Synagis®) is 15mg/kg IM once a month during RSV season.

-Cisatracurium and vecuronium do not provide pain relief or sedation.

-Vincristine is administered ONLY through the intravenous (IV) route.

-Vincristine should NEVER be administered intrathecally (IT), potentially fatal.

-Vincristine can cause severe constipation and paralytic ileus.

-Oxymetazoline (Afrin®) should only be used for 3 days to avoid severe rebound nasal congestion.

-Oxycodone’s duration of action is ~4-5 hours, while Oxycontin®’s (controlled release oxycodone) duration of action is ~12 hours.
