David J. Murray, MD, has been appointed anesthesiologist-in-chief at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and chief of the division of pediatric anesthesiology at Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM). Dr. Murray will continue as the Carol B. and Jerome T. Loeb Professor and head of medical simulation for WUSM.
Dr. Murray received his medical degree from the University of Saskatchewan and completed his anesthesiology residency training at the University of Iowa. He was a professor of pediatrics and anesthesiology at University of Iowa as well as vice-chairman (education) of the department of anesthesia before being recruited to Washington University in 1995.
Dr. Murray initiated the clinical simulation program at WUSM and has shepherded the development of the medical school’s nationally-renowned program in medical simulation. He is the author or over 100 peer-reviewed publications and is associate editor of the journal Anesthesiology. Dr. Murray has received numerous grants and awards, and his research in simulation-based assessment of physician performance is funded by NIH/Agency for Health Quality Research.
