These activities and services are available for your next family-centered event at no charge to your group or organization. Let us help you choose the activity that best suits your event. There are certain requirements that must be met by your organization for us to provide these services. Email programs@bjc.org for more information or to request that a representative from St. Louis Children's Hospital attend your event to offer one of the following activities or services.
Car Seat Safety Activities
Car Seat Safety Booth: A trained car seat expert displays a variety of car seats, answers questions and gives advice on car seat safety and purchasing car seats. This is a great option for organizations that are not able to schedule a car seat safety check.
Car Seat Safety Check: Certified child passenger safety technicians check children’s car seats for proper installation, train parents on installation and answer questions. A limited selection of new seats are available for purchase at reduced prices.
Helmet Safety Activities
Egg Drop Demo: An interactive demonstration that uses an egg to illustrate the relationship between wearing a helmet and brain injury prevention.
Helmet Safety Booth: A trained professional provides information and answers questions on helmet safety and displays CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) approved helmets. This is a great option for organizations that are not able to schedule a helmet safety check.
Helmet Safety Check: Trained experts check children’s helmets for proper fit. New helmets are also available for purchase at a discounted rate.
Health-Related Activities
First Aid Kits: Kids assemble simple first-aid kits that can be kept in a backpack or desk drawer.
First-Aid Station: Registered nurses staff a first-aid station at your youth-centered event, providing care to children for minor injuries and illness.
Fit ‘N’ Fun at Home: An interactive game for kids to take home that teaches them the importance of activity and healthy snacks in growth and development.
Glow Bug Hand Washing: Kids learn about good hand washing techniques and personal hygiene, with the use of “magic” lotion and a black light.
Hospital Tours: Groups of people age 15 and older tour several patient care areas as well as the Edison Cafe and the Olson Garden. A knowledgeable leader will talk about the function of each area and the staff members who work there, as well as the hospital in general.
Poison Safety: An interactive display shows common household poisons and gives tips on poison safety. Shows room by room, household look-a-likes that may cause accidental poisonings.
Sugary Drinks: An interactive display reveals and compares the amount of sugar in several different beverages. Kids will discover the healthiest beverage choices.
Teddy Visits the Hospital: Kids have a chance to dress up like a doctor and perform a “check up” on a giant teddy bear.
Trailmix Treat: Kids can make their own trailmix treat to take with them and enjoy. They will have an opportunity to choose a variety of ingredients to create this healthy snack. Recipe cards will be available so they can make this tasty snack at home.
What Pumps You Up?: A fun activity that helps kids learn about their circulatory system. It provides information on the anatomy and physiology of the heart, as well as on habits for a heart-healthy lifestyle.
Crafts
Bookmarks: Kids can decorate a bookmark and have it laminated to keep or give as a special gift.
Button Making: Kids have a chance to color and assemble their very own button.
Handprint Poem: Kids can decorate a poem with their handprints to take home. Perfect for framing!
Snerdlihc Activities
Pictures with Snerdlihc: Our fuzzy mascot will attend your event and kids will have an opportunity to greet him and get a picture taken with him. They will also be able to color a fun picture frame to hold their photo.
Snerdlihc: Our fuzzy mascot appears at your event and greets children with a friendly hug, handshake and stickers.
Snerdlihc Says: With just a few folds, kids can turn a colorful piece of paper into a fun game to play with their friends! Snerdlihc, the St. Louis Children's Hospital mascot, will reveal important nutrition and safety messages in a fun and exciting way.
Snerdlihc Tattoos: Kids receive a temporary tattoo of Snerdlihc.
