Historic heart-lung transplant brought hope to Baby Jack and his familyJack was born in January 2018 with an underdeveloped heart and severely damaged lungs—hypoplastic left heart syndrome. Clearly a fighter, Jack beat the odds and survived his first two months. With time running out, Pirooz Eghtesady, MD, a Washington University cardiothoracic surgeon at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, performed a complex, 11-hour heart-lung transplant on Jack.

Jack made history as the youngest person in 10 years to have a successful heart-lung transplant in the United States. The news has brought hope to families across the country as Jack continues to grow and reach milestones as a 10 month old.
