Pediatric ER
The pediatric emergency unit at Missouri Baptist Medical Center is staffed 24-7 by Washington University pediatricians and specialty-trained pediatric nurses from St. Louis Children's Hospital dedicated to the health needs and comfort of children and their families. Features of the pediatric unit include:
- Online emergency room check-in
- Treatment rooms, sized just for kids with kid-friendly amenities
- Six inpatient beds that allow physicians to admit children overnight for observation or treatment
- Imaging services
- "Ouchless" techniques to help take the scariness out of their visit
Developed by Washington University emergency medicine physicians, the “ouchless” emergency unit employs a variety of techniques—including the use of nitrous oxide—to ensure patients experience as little discomfort as possible.
The pediatric emergency unit is designed to care for children with a variety of injuries and illnesses. Each patient receives ongoing assessment and diagnostic treatment. Throughout the course of patient care, radiology and laboratory services are also available, if required. In cases where more specialized pediatric care is needed, the staff will quickly arrange for patient transport to St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
It’s very easy for families to access Children’s Hospital at Missouri Baptist Medical Center. You can check-in online or come directly to the hospital. The unit is located on the first floor of the East Pavilion building on the eastern end of the medical center. The pediatric emergency department is adjacent to the adult department. Parking is readily available in the Emergency lot and is FREE. The lot is directly next to the East Pavilion.
Newborn Care
In addition, Washington University neonatologists and pediatricians from St. Louis Children’s Hospital provide coverage for all newborns, including those who may require care in the newborn intensive care unit (NICU).
At every high-risk delivery, in addition to the delivery team, there is a pediatrician or neonatologist, and a specially-trained nurse who are there specifically for the babies.
Should a baby require surgery or an extremely high level of care, he or she will be transferred to St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
Sleep Center
Pediatric sleep patients can complete their sleep study at the Pediatric Sleep Center Missouri Baptist Medical Center. These studies help you and your child address sleep-related problems — so you can all sleep better.
