Also available Monday through Friday: PAWS West at Missouri Baptist
The staff of the Pediatric Acute Wound Service (PAWS) are specially trained in burn and wound care, and treat children in the hospital and as outpatients. With PAWS, children who do not necessarily need to be hospitalized can have their wound issues addressed daily or several times a week in an outpatient setting.
The PAWS team works to evaluate each child’s needs, including areas such as nutrition, child life services, psychological services, occupational/physical therapy, and pain management, to coordinate a specialized treatment plan.
Types of wounds treated:
- Pressure sores
- Surgical wounds
- Wounds caused by trauma
- Pilonidal cysts
- Gastrostomy site breakdown
Your child may also be a candidate for wound care treatment if he/she has a wound that has not started to heal in two weeks or is not completely healed in six weeks.
