St. Louis Children’s Hospital relies on the support of donors and volunteers to help ensure that critically ill and injured children have access to the highest quality care, especially in today’s increasingly challenging health care environment. Founded in 1879, the St. Louis Children’s Hospital Foundation is a charitable 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization under Section 509(a)(1), through which all gifts benefit the mission of St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Charitable gifts help the hospital acquire new technology, expand programs and services, recruit leading specialists, and advance groundbreaking research. With continued community and donor support, Children’s Hospital can improve the lives of children and their families for years to come.
St. Louis Children’s Hospital is a highly respected, fiscally responsible institution with a noble mission—to do what’s right for kids! On average, the yearly cost of fund-raising ranges from $0.07 - $0.13, meaning that approximately $0.87 - $0.93 of every dollar raised by the Foundation on behalf of the hospital benefits its intended charitable purpose. An endowed fund is “the gift that keeps giving,” because it generates annual income for the hospital. Endowment funds are invested and each year a portion of the fund’s income is used for the hospital program or service designated by the donor, while the rest of the return is re-invested to preserve and grow the original gift.
