Becoming a Patient at St. Louis Children’s Hospital

Obtaining a Physician Referral

To obtain a referral to a physician at St. Louis Children's Hospital, we will need:

  • Referral letter from the your child's current physician
  • Complete medical record
  • Radiographs (any imaging tests)
  • Any tests that have been completed and their results
  • Contact information, including your child's name, date of birth, parent's names, address, telephone number(s) and email address

Sending Your Child’s Records, Imaging and Test Results

Please send the information listed above, including contact information in English, to:

Once we have received your child’s records:

  • A physician will review them and determine if we can accept your child as a patient. Please note that our physicians cannot provide second opinions or make medical recommendations based on medical record reviews without examining your child in person.
  • A staff member from St. Louis Children’s Hospital will contact you to let you know whether we can accept your child as a patient.

Fulfilling Additional Requests

If a physician determines that your child would be a good fit as a patient at St. Louis Children's Hospital, you will likely need to fulfill additional information requests.

Many programs have a unique set of additional steps for you to take during the referral process. A staff member from the program your child will be visiting will contact you with any additional requirements.

Financial Arrangements

Evaluation and treatment at the hospital can have a sizeable fee. Please note that full payment will be expected at the time of service.

We recommend you check with your insurance in your home country about whether medical costs at St. Louis Children’s Hospital will be covered.

All travel arrangements and associated costs, including lodging, will be separate from medical costs.
