Research is an integral part of the mission and purpose of St. Louis Children's Hospital. Nurses and Allied Health Professionals at St. Louis Children's Hospital recognize the importance of providing evidence-based practice (EBP) and their responsibility to contribute to scientific knowledge through the conduct and utilization of research. The application of the most current and best scientific knowledge as well as the discovery of new knowledge results in improved clinical outcomes and a Superior Patient Experience. The Research & EBP programs within the Department of Clinical Quality, Safety & Practice Excellence has resources to support you whether your interest is in evidence-based practice or in conducting research. Our services include:

Advisory Committee
The multidisciplinary Research/EBP Advisory Committee provides oversight for research activities within the hospital, including the establishment and evaluation of policies, procedures and processes related to research and dissemination. Committee members, which include nurses, provide review and approval of studies, oversight of grant programs, and annually recognize a nurse for Excellence in Research/EBP as part of the annual Nurses' Week awards.
EBP Fellowship Program
The EBP Fellowship program is undergoing redesign and is not currently offered to staff. The Practice Excellence department is available for guidance to staff interested in conducting an evidence-based practice project.
Research Fellowship Program
The Research Fellowship is designed as a 2-year program, with new cohorts starting each September. Fellows attend classes every other month to learn about research basics. A research advisor meets with the fellows between classes and throughout the program from project proposal to dissemination. Continuing Nursing Education credits are offered.
