Our training program utilizes both a structured and individualized approach to address the training needs of the postdoctoral fellow. The structured activities are based on the general training goals that aim to prepare the fellow for a career in pediatric psychology. Individualized training is provided to the fellow based on a needs/interest assessment that is conducted during in the 1st quarter of the training year. The fellow’s internship training director may be contacted at the beginning of the training year to determine ongoing training needs at the postdoctoral level. With quarterly evaluations of the fellow’s progress, we have the opportunity to engage in frequent goal setting and progress monitoring. The fellow’s training will progress in a step-wise approach based on their experience and needs, but typically starts with observation of the rotation supervisors, supervisor observation of the fellow, and then independent practice with supervisory support. Supervisors will observe the fellow as needed throughout the year to provide feedback. The fellow will be provided with readings relevant to each rotation and will have the opportunity to attend seminars throughout the medical center to supplement learning. Supervisors will model and encourage utilizing theory and evidence to guide excellent clinical care.
