Head to Toe

Program Description

St. Louis Children's Hospital Head to Toe weight management program is designed to encourage children, teens and their parents to make healthier lifestyle choices by setting goals, increasing daily physical activity and exercising.

The program consists of meeing for an hour and a half one time a week for 10 weeks. We currently offer classes in the Spring, Summer and Fall. Each class combines hands on fitness taught by an exercise physiologist and nutrition activities taught by a registered dietitian, as well as parent group discussion, in a safe and non-threatening environment.

                                                    Cost: $50 for entire 10 week session


Families will learn to:

Make healthier choices and prepare healthy snacks

Read nutrition labels and control portions

Exercise at home with or without equipment

Properly stretch before and after exercise

Become an agent of change in the household and be a catalyst for parent/child interaction as it relates to activity and healthy eating

Frequently Asked Questions:
     How old does the child have to be in order to participate?
         
Kids ages 8-17 may participate in the program
     Do parents have to attend the classes?
          Yes, parents participation is required
     Does my child need permission from the doctor to participate?
         
Yes, enclosed in your Head to Toe enrollment packet will be a physician release form
     Are siblings allowed to attend the class and if not, is child care provided?
         
To gain the most benefit from the program, siblings are not allowed to come to the classes.

     Are refunds available?
          Program registration fees are non-refundable, but may be applied for future programs

Meet the Staff:
      Julie Cappelletti is a licensed and registered dietitian who received her bachelor of science in Nutrition and Dietetics from Saint Louis University. She received her Certificate of training in childhood and adolescent weight management through the ADA. She is a facilitator of the Head to Toe program, providing expert counsultation in nutrition and healthful living, specializing in integrating behavior modification for individuals looking to enhance their health and well-being.

     Christopher Monterusso is an exercise specialist who received his masters of science in movement sciences from University of Illinois-Chicago. He has received his ACSM Clinical Exercise Specialist and ACSM Health and Fitness Specialist certifications. His training interests are cardiopulmonary rehab, athletic performance and weight loss.
