Appointments are made only by a referral from a physician.  Physicians should call Children's Direct at 800.678.HELP (4357) to make a referral.

The Washington University and St. Louis Children’s Healthy Start Clinic offers a multidisciplinary approach to treating childhood obesity. The clinic focuses on providing optimal medical, nutritional, behavioral and educational support to obese patients and their families. The Healthy Start Clinic promotes new beginnings to initiate changes leading to improvement in our patient’s health and well-being.

Where and when are the visits?

Patients are seen on Fridays in the Healthy Start Clinic in Suite 2C located on the second floor of St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

How do I refer a patient?

We accept patients, ages 5-18, with a body mass index (BMI), or weight for length, greater than the 95th percentile for age. For most children and adolescents, this translates to a BMI greater than 30 kg/m2.
