Are you planning to travel overseas? Then St. Louis Children’s Hospital Travel Clinic should be one of the first stops on your itinerary.

Whether you’re traveling for work, leisure, volunteering or studying abroad, it’s important to see a specialist that will help you plan for a safer, healthier international trip.

Who can be seen at Children’s?

We can see children as well as their parents/guardians and siblings. Separate appointments will be scheduled for each individual, but we can schedule the appointments simultaneously so that the entire family can be seen at the same time.

When should I schedule my appointment?

It’s important that you schedule your consultation well in advance of your trip. Most vaccines require at least 2 weeks to stimulate protective immunity. Appointments can be made for Monday or Thursday mornings.

Which shots will I need?

Our infectious disease specialists will use the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines to determine which vaccines and medications you will need for your trip.

How much will it cost?

A consultation fee will be required at the time of your visit. The visit will cost $100 for the first family member and $75 for each additional family member. Insurance plans do not reimburse for international travel visits, so the consultation fee will be required at the time of the visit. We will bill the insurance for any vaccines administered. If there are vaccines which your plan does not cover, you will be responsible for the fees associated with those vaccines.

What information will be needed prior to my visit and what should I expect during my travel health consultation?

When you call to schedule your appointment, we will ask you the following questions:

  • Where do you plan to visit and how long will you be at each location?
  • Have you had travel immunizations previously?

We will use this information as well as your health history to provide specific recommendations for vaccinations and prescription medications as well as some tips for traveling in specific areas. Additionally, we can counsel you on general travel issues, such as motion and altitude sickness, etc.
