Transgender Resources for Parents and Kids

One of our goals at the Washington University Transgender Center at St. Louis Children's Hospital is to connect your family with support groups and other resources for transgender and LGBTQ+ kids and their parents.

      Transgender Resources and Support Groups

      Growing American Youth
A social support organization for LGBTQ+ youth 21 and under in the St. Louis area. Meetings are typically held in St. Charles and St. Louis.

PFLAG (Parents, Families, Friends and Allies)
The nation's largest LGBTQ+ family and ally organization. Founded in 1973, PFLAG has 400 chapters, including several local chapters in Missouri and Illinois. Find your local chapter.

      Pinwheels
Pinwheels is a network of families embracing their children's and teens gender creativity. They offer monthly support groups in St. Louis and the Chicago area that provide space for parents to meet and kids and teens playgroups.

      PROMO
Missouri’s statewide LGBTQ+ organization. PROMO advocates for equality through legislative action, electoral politics, grassroots organizing and community education.

St. Louis University’s Family Clinic for Queer and Trans Youth
The Family Clinic for Queer and Trans Youth offers individual and group therapy for queer and trans youth and their families at a low cost per session.

The SPOT: Supporting Positive Opportunities with Teens
A program that provides free medical and social services for St. Louis-area youth between the ages of 13 and 24. Staff members work with young people to address a variety of medical issues, such as starting contraception, addressing mental illness and seeking care for HIV.

      TransParent
A national organization for kids ages 5 to 17 and their parents. Its goal is to empower parents to help their children live authentically. The St. Louis chapter meets monthly and helps parents get connected with support services and resources.

      The Trevor Project
A national organization that provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning (LGBTQ) young people under 25.

Help Finding More Transgender and LGBTQ+ Resources

At the Transgender Center, we’ll be happy to discuss which resources and groups might be the best fit for you and your family.

You can find additional information by visiting or contacting the Center for Families Resource Library, a free health information library on the third floor of the hospital.
