Program Background

The program curriculum incorporates both Missouri and Illinois Department of Education Standards.Safety Street is an injury prevention program for kindergarten through fifth grade students. A classroom curriculum as well as an interactive, life-size cityscape and picture panels help children learn important safety lessons. The set can be customized to represent the community in which the school is located. 

Program Overview

Kindergarten - 2 Grade Curriculum
With the assistance of parent/community volunteers, kids will practice:

  • pedestrian safety
  • stray animal safety
  • stranger safety
  • train safety
  • helmet and bicycle safety

3 - 5 Grade Curriculum*
*Appropriate for 6th Grade if located at an elementary school.
With the assistance of parent/community volunteers, kids will practice:

  • water safety
  • home safety
  • playground and sports safety
  • car safety and trunk entrapment
  • pedestrian safety refresher

Program Evaluation

Pre and post assessments will be conducted by St. Louis Children’s Hospital staff. A final evaluation report including knowledge gained by students will be shared with the school.
