Dismantling Disparities by Addressing Racism as a Preventable Harm
Racism as a Preventable Harm is an innovative way of addressing this systemic issue in healthcare by centering the historical trauma of Black people to stop the cycle of medical negligence and harm. Acknowledging the existence and effects of racism in healthcare requires awareness on multiple levels. The journey through awareness can render us helpless. By using the existing preventable harm framework and updating it to include evidence-based and antiracist interventions we are providing a new lens to see how to prevent further trauma to patients, families and team members.
