Objectives: Our training program uses structured and individualized approaches to address the training needs of the postdoctoral fellow. Structured activities (such as didactics) are based on building competencies to prepare the fellow for a career in Pediatric Psychology. Individualized training is provided based on the fellow’s interests, rotations, experiences, goals, and identified areas of growth.

Our fellowship’s main objective is to train future clinical psychologists as specialists in pediatric psychology. We are committed to training Psychology fellows to be competent, compassionate, and ethical practitioners of pediatric psychology, and to practice with an understanding of the unique needs of each patient.

Graduates of our fellowship program will have solid skills in assessment, diagnosis, and intervention and will be well-prepared to work in a setting such as a children's hospital, academic medical center, or within a specialty care outpatient medical practice.

Goals:

  • Increase breadth and depth of knowledge and implementation of evidence-based interventions with a variety of referring concerns and presentations.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary setting and interact as a consultant to members of pediatric medical teams.
  • Become a skilled clinician with the ability to participate in collaborative research studies in the field of pediatric psychology and obtain the skills to implement evidence-based practices.
  • Achieve professional-level competencies in pediatric psychology based on those set forth by the Society of Pediatric Psychology Task Force Report (Spirito et al., 2003)

Future: Graduates of our fellowship program have secured clinical and faculty positions in a variety of settings, including children’s hospitals, child development centers, private practice, and primary care medical practices.

Licensure: Fellows will apply for provisional licensure in Missouri prior to the start of the training year. Our postdoctoral training program fulfills licensure requirements for the state of Missouri.
